SMART Programs Training Requirements

You must be certified within 30 days of hire or before your certificate expires. Certification is valid for five years. Information about SMART Programs' policies is at aglc.ca

You may need more than one SMART Programs certificate for the work you do. Click on the logo to register for your program.

SMART Program Who needs this certification?

Full- and part-time workers in Class A, B, D, E and Duty Free licensed premises or at a Commercial Public Resale Special Event:

  • Owners, managers, supervisors
  • Retailers
  • Bartenders, servers, greeters and hosts
  • Drink ticket sellers
  • Security staff (directly employed or contracted by the licensee)
  • Owners and managers of a company contracted to provide security

Full- and part-time liquor agents:

  • Persons registered with the AGLC as a liquor agency and their employees whose duties include the sampling of liquor products.

Full- and part-time workers at a Class A Minors Prohibited premises or Commercial Public Resale Special Event:

  • Security staff (directly employed or contracted by the licensee)
  • Security managers and supervisors
  • Owners and managers of a company contracted to provide security

Full- and part-time staff at premises where there are vlts:

  • Owners, managers and supervisors
  • All staff having any involvement with patrons using vlts

Reel Facts certification is not required for registered gaming workers with valid Deal Us In Phase One certification.

Full- and part-time registered gaming workers at casinos and Racing Entertainment Centres (RECs) require Deal Us In Phase One certification:

  • Casino, REC and games managers
  • Casino Facility Licensee representatives
  • Pit supervisors, pit bosses, dealers
  • Directors and managers of security, security guards, surveillance managers and Monitor Room personnel
  • Slot managers, supervisors and operators (slot attendants, slot cashiers and slot change and slot cash room attendants)
  • Cash cage and Count Room advisors

The following full- and part-time registered gaming workers at casinos and Racing Entertainment Centres (RECs) also require Deal Us In Phase Two certification:

  • Casino and REC managers and supervisors
  • Security staff

Full- and part-time registered gaming workers at a Class A or B Bingo facility:

  • Hall and games managers and advisors
  • Assistant hall managers and advisors
  • Pull-ticket managers and sellers
  • Callers, sellers/checkers
  • Security guards
  • Cashiers
  • Bingo co-ordinators

* Licensees are responsible for ensuring that the required staff persons are trained and that they maintain their training.
Licensees who employ non-certified workers may be issued a warning, fine, license suspension or license termination.
