SMART Training Program Certification Timelines and Fees

As per AGLC policy, the SMART Training Programs' certification requirements are below. More information about AGLC's policies is online at aglc.ca

ProServe Liquor Staff Training Certification is required within 30 days of hire.  Individuals must recertify before the expiry date to maintain certification. $25.00 + GST $50.00 + shipping/handling + GST $50.00 + GST ProServe certification is mandatory for the following full time and part time staff:
  • positions where liquor is provided under the authority of a Class A, B, D, E and Duty Free licence (excluding Class D - Sacramental Wine Resale licence):
    • licensed premises owners, managers, supervisors, retailers, bartenders, servers, greeters, and hosts
    • security staff (directly employed or contracted by the licensee); and
    • owners and managers of a company contracted to provide security.
  • positions where liquor is provided under the authority of a Commercial Public Resale Special Event licence:
    • managers, supervisors, bartenders, servers, and drink ticket sellers
    • security staff (directly employed or contracted by the licensee) and,
    • owners and managers of a company contracted to provide security
  • persons registered with the AGLC as a liquor agency and their employees whose duties include the sampling of liquor products.

ProServe certification is not required for staff working full time or part time:

  • as kitchen staff, bus persons, and cleaning staff in licensed premises
  • where liquor is provided under the authority of a Community Public Resale Special Event licence
  • where liquor is provided under the authority of a Private Special Event licence
  • where liquor is provided under the authority of a Class C licence (Note: the Board may require the licensee to meet ProServe training requirements if the Class C licensee has violated the GLA, GLR, or Board policies), and
  • where liquor is provided under the authority of a Class D Sacramental Wine Resale licence
ProTect Security Staff Training No charge Not offered Not offered ProTect certification is mandatory for full-time and part-time industry staff working in a Class A Minors Prohibited premises and at a Commercial Public Resale Special Event in the following positions:
  • all individuals who manage or supervise security staff
  • security staff (directly employed or contracted by the licensee), and
  • owners and managers of a company contracted to provide security.

The specific responsibilities associated with these positions are described in Sections 1.7.15 and 1.7.16 of the Licensee Handbook.

ProTect certification is not required for staff working full time or part time:

  • at Class A Minors Allowed, Class B, Class C, Class D, Class E and Duty Free premises
  • at a Class A Minors Prohibited premises in a position not listed in Section 1.7.2
  • at a function licensed as a Community Public Resale Special Event, and
  • at a function licensed as a Private Special Event.

All individuals required to successfully complete ProTect Security Staff Training are also required to successfully complete ProServe Liquor Staff Training.

Reel Facts VLT Staff Training No charge Not offered Not offered Reel Facts certification is mandatory for the following full-time and part-time staff:
  • Owners, managers, supervisors; and
  • All staff working at a liquor licensed premises having any involvement with patrons using VLTs

NOTE: Reel Facts certification is not required for staff working full-time or part-time as kitchen staff, bus persons, entertainers, and cleaning staff in licensed premises.

Reel Facts certification is not required for registered gaming workers employed in casino facilities or Racing Entertainment Centres with valid Deal Us In Phase 1 certification. Valid Deal Us In Phase 1 certification is acceptable in lieu of Reel Facts certification at casino facilities and RECs where staff may have involvement with VLT patrons.

A Good Call Bingo Staff Training No charge Not offered Not offered A Good Call certification is mandatory for the following Registered Gaming Workers working full-time or part-time in a Class A or Class B Licensed Facility:
  • Hall and games managers and advisors (includes independent hall advisor)
  • Assistant hall managers and advisors
  • Callers, sellers/checkers and security guards
  • Pull-ticket managers and sellers
  • Cashiers and bookkeepers
  • Bingo co-ordinators
Deal Us In Casino Staff Training (Phase One) No charge Not offered Not offered Deal Us In Phase One certification is mandatory for all full-time and part-time registered gaming workers. This includes:
  • Games managers (major and minor casinos)
  • Pit supervisors, pit bosses, and dealers
  • Directors of security, managers of security, security guards, surveillance managers, and Monitor Room personnel
  • Slot managers, slot supervisors and slot operators (slot attendants, slot cashiers and slot cash room attendants)
  • Cash cage advisor and Count Room advisor
  • Casino managers and Casino Facility Licensee representatives

NOTE: Valid Deal Us In Phase One certification is acceptable in lieu of Reel Facts certification at casinos where staff may have involvement with VLT patrons.

Deal Us In Casino Staff Training (Phase Two) Not offered Not offered No charge Deal Us In Phase Two certification is mandatory for individuals working full-time or part-time as a registered gaming worker in the following positions:
  • Casino managers and supervisors
  • Security staff

A Deal Us In Phase Two-certified member of the management staff must be present at all times during casino operating hours.

* Licensees are responsible for ensuring that the required staff persons are trained and that they maintain their training.
Licensees who employ non-certified workers may be issued a warning, fine, license suspension or license termination.
